Bosch produces the iBooster – a vacuum-independent, electromechanical brake booster – in Wroclaw, which is located in the south of western Poland. Since production
launched in 2020, demand for manufacturing and logistics space has grown – and new buildings were needed. The Chassis Systems Control (CC) business division is both the developer and the occupant.
The new buildings include a 5,800-square-meter multi-functional logistics facility and a 2,350-square-meter hangar with an automated high-bay warehouse. The latter makes optimum use of the available space and ensures that the inventory is organized efficiently. The two buildings pool the site’s warehousing capacity, freeing up space
in the existing buildings for new production lines.
The new buildings are connected to the existing ones and are supplied via the central infrastructure. The organization was looking to the future before construction started: according to the master plan for the project, the designers made sure that the new buildings could also be used as production facilities, if necessary. The gatehouse for the front gate was also relocated during the construction process; it now stands a few meters farther south, where new truck parking spaces were also created.
The project involved tackling a number of different challenges simultaneously. An unexploded bomb from the second world war was discovered on the construction site and had to be removed before work could begin. Additionally, the war in Ukraine caused shortages in the supply of steel, copper, and other materials. The team was forced to find alternative sources at short notice. There were also a number of Ukrainian workers employed on the construction site who returned to their home country
when the war broke out, and the team was forced to replace them. Despite all these issues, the site expansion project was completed on schedule.
