Logistics excellence in Blaj, Romania

The Bosch site in Blaj, Romania, has grown continuously since its founding in 2007. As new production lines and products emerge, the plant is demonstrating its strategic importance for the EMEA region.

The Bosch Rexroth (DC) and Power Solutions (PS) divisions are active at the site. Bosch Rexroth, in particular, is upscaling its production: The Linear Motion Technology business area (DC-LT) manufactures components such as guide rails, which are used in a wide range of automation applications. As the division aims to double its production volume by 2026, additional facilities were required.

In the first construction phase, the shop floor of production buildings Blj 101 and 102 in the north was extended by roughly 2,000 m². The project leveraged the existing infrastructure, which could continue to be used efficiently. Necessary adjustments and fire protection retrofitting in the existing buildings were implemented during ongoing operations. This logistical challenge was mastered with flying colors and without interrupting on-site production.

The architecture of the new space complements the existing material and façade concept. Where possible, the style of exterior and gate elements of the existing buildings was adopted, which also helped to save resources. The new 24-meter column grid ensures more flexible use of the production areas and makes it easy to accommodate future requirements.

The site is thus well prepared for the future: The south side of the facility offers further options for expansion on a similar scale, so it is possible to react flexibly to growing customer requirements.

With the expansion in Blaj, Bosch is strengthening its position in the EMEA region. Moreover, the project is a showcase of how to combine site development and sustainable planning in a smart manner.
