The Powertrain Solutions site in České Budějovice is one of the most important companies in South Bohemia, located in the south of the Czech Republic. Manufacturing of parts and components for the automotive industry takes place there. A modern facility was needed. So instead of just constructing a warehouse, a three-story multipurpose building was built to this end. The control rooms would no longer have been suitable for quality management in the medium term, which necessitated the new building. It had to be a facility where it is possible to manage the temperature and prevent vibrations. Additional space was also needed for development and a workshop for Technical Functions. One challenge was to find a way to integrate the new building in a space between two existing buildings.

Well-lit office spaces on the second floor
The workshop for the Technical Functions (TEF) is located on the ground floor.

The ground floor now houses two control rooms for calibration, testing, and product audits in classes 2 and 3. They are equipped with radiant ceiling sails for heating and cooling and wall panels for the class 2 control room. In terms of vibrations, the rooms were built on separate foundations with a thickness of 55 cm using foundation piles specific for each room. Workshops for quality management and Technical Functions are located on the same level. The offices for development on the upper floors were designed in keeping with the principles of Inspiring Working Conditions. There is a spacious communications area near the stairwell, which spills out into the outside on the ground floor. The façade is clad with aluminum slats and has linear accents in Bosch’s corporate design colors.

In addition, there is a roof-mounted photovoltaic system. Nearly 75 percent of the energy is generated via heat recovery and heat exchangers and in turn making the building carbon neutral. Rainwater flows into the ground via a drainage channel system. The building was awarded the prize for innovative technical design of an industrial building in the PRESTA South Bohemia competition for the high quality of its technical and architectural concept.

Separate foundations were installed on separate foundation piles for the control rooms in order to avoid external vibrations.
